Music Therapy

Some people find it easy to express their feelings in words… and some people live their entire life feeling like it’s a musical… and some find their peace in playing the instrument that is close to their hearts & personalities

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words”
- Victor Hugo -

Music has a deeper way of healing… and according to healthline.com “Sound healing therapy uses aspects of music to improve physical and emotional health and well being”. Now to me, I don’t need any proofs to know that this is true… It might seem to you that I am good at expressing clearly how I feel with words, but that is something recent for me… In my early years, I often felt alone, no one understood what I was going through & how I am… Music always helped me find my world to be a better place… whether it’s the instruments that they used for each specific song, or the words that translates the feelings of their instruments… each beat, each melody & each rhythm, each tune & pitch touched my soul, relieved my pain & at times expressed my joy even more…

Music affects the brain & our moods… it’s just like our thoughts… it’s actually almost impossible to find someone who does not get affected by music… and that’s why music therapy is a great way of healing… and it may include:

  • listening to music

  • singing along to music

  • moving or dancing to the beat of the music

  • meditating

  • playing an instrument

Music therapy isn’t something new at all, actually it is believed to date back to the Ancient Greek, when music was used in an attempt to cure mental disorders. And luckily people are still using music or sound healing therapy to date, and it is increasingly growing & proven to being effective. Usually people who become certified as music/sound healers & specialists are musicians themselves, as they have the knowledge of how music can evoke emotional responses to relax or stimulate people or help them heal. They can play music for you, play with you, or teach you… and it’s just magical

According to Harvard health, Music therapy can heal in many ways:

  • Easing anxiety and discomfort during procedures

  • Restoring lost speech

  • Reducing side effects of cancer therapy

  • Helping with physical therapy and rehabilitation

  • Improving quality of life for people with dementia

  • autism spectrum disorder and learning difficulties

And it also helps in lowering stress, decreasing mood swings, lowering blood pressure & cholesterol levels, lowering risk for coronary artery disease & strokes and also teaches pain management & improves sleep… For instance, I can only sleep deeply when I’m listening to meditative sleep music… And sometimes when I have no words to tell myself or calm my mind, I listen to instrumental music… I find peace in imagining how each instrument is playing.

My life is a musical… In school & university days I always used to study while listening to music, it made memorizing and remembering what I am studying easier and much faster… and now while I am writing this article I am listening to music…

The truth is music is just like love, it exists everywhere around us, it’s in the air we breathe, the glasses & cups we drink from, it’s in the spoons we eat with & in the engines we switch on… it is present in the sound of silence & in the dark nights… it’s there in every click & every letter we pronounce, in every roar and in every tweet/cheep or even shriek… music is life, it is a form of unspoken communication. Music has the power to shape your day, and also change your day. When you wake up in the morning listen to something that soothes your soul & energizes your body & calms your mind… and I hope you can find your anchor in music and live your life filled with an even more joy, love & hope…

“Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours”
- Elton John -

Sometime we do not find the proper words to say, but can find the right song to sing or beat to hum. Music is an essential part of life & it has helped & still helps people to feel that they have someone that understands them & that they are connected… music is mystical, therapeutic & sensational… music can heal the wounds that medicine can not heal.

Continue having a musical day,
